Morpheus8 Skin Tightening & Remodeling

Our skin loses elasticity as we age, eventually resulting in sagging skin, fine lines, and wrinkles. Morpheus8 is a dual functioning treatment that combines microneedling and radiofrequency (RF) technology to tighten the skin, smooth contour irregularities, and remodel subdermal fat. This non-surgical procedure also boosts the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin for improvements in the patient’s overall complexion. Under the guidance of Dr. Richard Sherman, our Skin Savior aestheticians can apply this versatile treatment to the face, neck, or body depending upon each patient’s personal rejuvenation goals.

Morpheus8

How does Morpheus8 work?

Similar to Profound®, Morpheus8 uses microneedling with RF technology to protect the epidermis and safely counteract chronological skin aging. Microneedling creates micro-channels that travel down to the deeper layers of the skin, increasing blood flow and new tissue formation. Temperature-controlled radiofrequency energy is then delivered below the skin’s surface to tighten the skin, improve complexion, and remodel fat cells in accordance with the patient’s goals. The treatment depth can be customized to suit each area of the body, and patients who do not need fat remodeling will not have their fat cells targeted.

As the fibroblast cells of the skin’s connective tissue are stimulated, the overlying dermis reacts, resulting in a cascade of complexion improvements. New collagen production, the foundation for firm skin, is induced through natural, autologous means. Once the overlying epidermis begins to react, patients will notice continued and comprehensive improvement of the skin’s volume, texture and tone. The skin will become tighter, brighter, and more youthful in appearance.

When used on the body, Morpheus8 can simultaneously treat the skin at three different depths, increasing uniformity of the results and safety for the skin. This treatment mode specifically targets fatty tissue, stimulates fat metabolism, and can be particularly effective for common concerns such as cellulite or double chin.

What are the benefits of skin tightening with Morpheus8?

Morpheus8 delivers the deepest fractional treatment available. While Profound® is an effective one-time treatment for skin laxity, patients must plan for a period of swelling and bruising afterward. Morpheus8 is administered over the course of a series of treatments to achieve similar cumulative results without the inconvenience of lingering side effects.

In addition to treating the face and neck, Morpheus8 can be used on nearly any area of the body to achieve smoother skin and remodel subdermal fat beneath the skin’s surface. Common treatment areas include the abdomen, inner and outer thighs, knees, flanks, and upper arms.

Skin concerns treated with Morpheus8 may include:

  • Skin laxity
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Complexion changes due to thinning of the skin
  • Thinner skin due to hormonal changes
  • Contour irregularity
  • Mild to moderate photo damage
  • Stretch marks
  • Acne scarring
  • Surgical marks (6-8 weeks after surgery)

This dual microneedling and RF therapy can stimulate collagen production, tighten the skin, and serve as a great supplement to Sculptra® Aesthetic when targeting the lower 2/3 of the face and jawline. Additional collagen induction on the neck can then be achieved with Morpheus8, where Sculptra® cannot be applied. For patients planning for a facelift, Morpheus8 can also be used as a preparatory treatment, so the skin is in the best possible condition prior to surgery.

Are there any side effects from Morpheus8?

There is little to no downtime associated with Morpheus8 treatment. The most common side effect is post-treatment redness, which typically fades in 24-72 hours. Other side effects can include temporary dry skin, itching, tightness, or tenderness. In rare cases, bruising may occur.

One major advantage of having treatments such as Morpheus8 performed in a dermatologist’s office is the convenience of pre- and post-treatment skincare to prepare the skin and maintain results. In the event of an adverse side effect, Dr. Sherman is available to answer all questions and address any issues. Patients typically avoid vigorous exercise, heat extremes, and sun exposure up to seven days following treatment. During this time, protecting the skin with sunblock, UPF clothing, and hats is particularly important.

When will I see the results from Morpheus8?

Since Morpheus8 is most often performed as a series of treatments, patients will notice a gradual but comprehensive improvement of the skin. Factors that may influence how quickly a patient sees results include the current condition of the skin, age, and individual response time. Younger patients may respond more quickly and see results after the first treatment, but Morpheus8 is designed to treat age-related concerns for healthy patients of any age.

After the initial treatment, the skin will begin to repair itself, fibroblasts react, and collagen stimulation begins around three weeks. Throughout the series of treatments, patients will notice continuous improvement, including 2-3 months after the final treatment.

During the consultation process, Dr. Sherman will design a customized treatment plan to achieve your personal goals. Typically, a series of at least 3 Morpheus8 sessions (spaced 4-6 weeks apart) is recommended, along with topical therapy to help promote and maintain collagen production. The final results from Morpheus8 can be expected to last about two years. Single-treatment maintenance sessions can be scheduled every 12-18 months to maintain smooth, youthful, radiant skin.
